Plant Care Notes
Cereus forbesii loves the sun, so give it bright, indirect light to full sun to keep those spirals nice and tight. It prefers warmer temperatures around 60-90°F, and does well in USDA hardiness zone 10. They are rather cold-tolerant and can survive temperatures as low as around 27°F, but become at risk for frost damage.
Spiral cacti are thirstier than others, so using the soak-and-dry method a bit more frequently. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings, and cut back in the cooler months when growth slows. The Spiralis can be more prone to fungal issues, so a well-draining cactus mix with extra pumice or perlite is KEY to keep the roots happy. Lastly, make sure your pot has drainage holes.
The best way to propagate this cactus is through stem cuttings. Take a clean tool, make a cut straight across the stem, and let that cut end callus over. Plant it in well-draining soil and let roots develop before slowly introducing more water, and you’ll have more spiral beauties in no time!
